Slurry Blasting in Progress - The SRS System

Slurry Blasting in Progress – The SRS System

Surface Removal Specialists uses a low pressure wet abrasive blast system to clean and prepare surfaces. This blasting system is superior to sandblasting or soda blasting due to better surface protection and long-lasting cleaning results.

Wet abrasive blasting uses a mixture of water and particulate abrasive media (usually garnet based). The presence of water between the abrasive media and the substrate being processed creates a lubricating cushion that protects the media and the surface from excessive damage. This has the dual advantage of lowering blasting media breakdown and also prevents impregnation of foreign materials into the surface.

SRS Slurry Blasting in Progress

SRS Slurry Blasting in Progress

What is Abrasive Blasting and how can it help your business?

Abrasive blasting or commonly known as “Sandblasting” is the operation of forcibly propelling a stream of abrasive material against a surface under high pressure to smooth a rough surface, roughen a smooth surface, shape a surface, or remove surface coatings.

Dry abrasive blasting commonly known as ” Dry sandblasting” or “Dry Blast” is the operation of forcibly propelling a stream of dry abrasive material against a surface under high pressure to smooth a rough surface, roughen a smooth surface, shape a surface, or remove surface coatings. Dry abrasives are commonly garnet based.

Wet abrasive blasting commonly known as ” Wet abrasive sandblasting”, or “Slurry Blasting” or “wet slurry blasting”  is the operation of forcibly propelling a stream of wet  abrasive material , a “slurry” mix, commonly garnet based with the addition of low amounts of water, against a surface under high pressure to smooth a rough surface, roughen a smooth surface, shape a surface, or remove surface coatings.(more…)

concrete profiling

Concrete profiling for overlay bonding

The most important characteristic for applying a coating or over-lay bonding is the texture or “profile” of the concrete.

For concrete polymer modified overlays the concrete surface may be roughened by mechanical profiling or acid etching. Large or difficult surfaces will usually be mechanically profiled.

For floor coatings in industrial or commercial applications

Mechanical profiling is the method of choice.

Whilst acid etching can provide adequate surface preparation for horizontal installations of coatings and toppings in areas that are well ventilated and require a spark and dust free environment, acid etching  will not remove petroleum-based products or animal vegetable oils from the concrete. In these situations mechanical profiling is the more suitable solution.
